Captain Jack Harkness - Costume Breakdown - Index

Whilst there are many detailed breakdowns out there of the Doctors' various outfits, there isn't a truly detailed one for the legendary Captain Jack Harkness. Now is the time to change that. This article is the definitive catalogue of every item worn by the Captain over his tenure, and explains in detail how to get your own outfit as accurate as possible.

Scroll down to the index at the bottom of the page in order to navigate to each section. This is a long read (hence why I'm breaking it up into chunks) but really worth it if you’re a fan of the Jack look. These are the key points:

1. In this post I break down every individual outfit piece worn throughout his tenure and index them.
2. For the purposes of this list, I am only talking about his R.A.F. inspired looks.
3. For certain items with no easy off-the-shelf alt I have created custom replicas or sourced original SA items. These include certain watches, belts, and shirts. I can make and supply these to people on request, so get in touch if you're interested.
4. Half of Jack’s look involves getting the right period-correct cut. Forget modern slim/skinny fits.

Looks of judgement upon your skinny fit clothes.

Eras:
Captain Jack’s outfits can be broken down into four distinct eras, each having a noticeable shift in overall costume design. The table below (red for Torchwood, blue for Doctor Who) summarises the key points of these timeframes:

Index:
This is a list of all the individual items worn by Captain Jack Harkness during his tenure in the Whoniverse. For the purposes of this breakdown I have only included items worn as part of his signature R.A.F. inspired look. Also, the years here refer to the episode broadcast dates, as the timeline is too messy to figure out exactly when certain episodes take place. An asterisk next to the year signifies that the item never appeared in any broadcast episodes, being a photoshoot only appearance.

Green signifies the manufacturer or creator of the item. For any item with an ambiguous origin I have written the most likely ID but highlighted the name in red to denote uncertainty. Red has also been used on any dates where an item's appearance is probable but not confirmed. For all regulation military uniform items I have simply marked them as Ministry of Defence (MOD).

1. Greatcoats:
    1.1. MOD vintage R.A.F. Blitz coat (2005)
